These are troubled times for Malayalam cinema's mega star Mohanlal . That is the unmistakable impression one gets from news from Kollywood.
Well, the bad news is that the talented Malayalam hero's latest movie, ‘College Kumaran’, on which he had pinned high hopes is having an indifferent run at the box office.
Initial reports said the film had a good opening. But the latest tiding from business circles is that it has run out of steam, and collections are bad.
That must cause concern to Mohanlal who, the grapevine says, has had a fifth flop in a row. A proposition not even a mega star can view with equanimity.
Incidentally, Mohanlal secured a fabulous fee of Rs 1.25 crore for ‘College Kumaran’.
The disturbing trend is bad not only for Mohanlal but also for the Malayalam film industry.
After all, Mohanlal and Mammootty are the leading actors in Mollywood. If their films do not do well at the box office, the future of Malayalam film industry could be in jeopardy, says the buzz.
Let us hope Mohanlal will break the jinx with his next film.
