Anniyan drawing huge crowds

Director Shankar and producer Oscar Ravichandran’s movie Anniyan is turning out to be quite a crowd puller down south.

The roads in front of cinema halls screening Anniyan in Tamil Nadu were blocked with traffic jams caused by movie buffs scrambling to see the latest movie of their favorite star Vikram .

Yes, Anniyan has proved to be a superhit and this verdict can be assuredly passed even though it has been just a few days since this utopian fantasy hit the marquee. The film, starring Vikram, actress Sada , Prakash Raj and Nedumudi Venu, has been made at the whopping budget of Rs.26.38 crores.

Knowing well the popularity of actor Vikram in the neighboring state, Andhra Pradesh, producer Oscar Ravichandran – living up to his reputation of a man with the Midas touch – had a simultaneous release of the Telugu-dubbed version (Aparichitudu) in Andhra. And the audience response in Andhra has been very good.

The movie’s strength is its entertaining story and its riveting climax. Some viewers were so moved by the confrontation scene between Vikram and Prakash Raj in the climax that they stood up and clapped (some even threw coins) in Anna Nagar theatre in Madurai.

Anniyan’s music, by Harris Jayaraj, is one of its strong points. The Andangkaka song, particularly, seems to have gone well with the audience. The movie also has a technical finesse owing to cinematographers Manikandan and Ravi Varman.

According to an analyst in Chennai, Anniyan has got an excellent opening in its worldwide release.

“Fans are scrambling for tickets at the theatres in Tamil Nadu from early in the morning. It looks like we have the first true superhit (Tamil) of this year on our hands,” he said.
