Will Mohanlal share screen space with Rajnikant?

It could turn out to be the casting coup of the year. Kollywood is rife with rumours that Malayalam megastar Mohanlal will figure in the forthcoming film of Tamil superstar Rajnikant , ‘Sivaji’.

The hot news is that both director Shankar and Rajni are in touch with Mohanlal in this connection.

The thinking in the Rajni camp seems to be that if Mohanlal agrees to be part of ‘Sivaji’, it would be an unbeatable combination of two awesome talents to the delight of their fans.

Mohanlal is already immensely popular in Tamil cinema. Among the Tamil movies he has done is ‘Iruvar’, based on the life and times of the redoubtable and evergreen MGR.

Interestingly, the Rajnikant-starrers, ‘Muthu’ and Chandramukhi are the Tamil remakes of Mohanlal movies ‘Thenmavin Kombathu’ and ‘Manichitrathazhu’ respectively.

Even ‘Sivaji’ is said to be a mix of Mohanlal films like ‘Naaduvazhigal’ and ‘Natturajavu’.

If the deal comes through, it will be the first time that Rajnikant and Mohanlal will be rubbing shoulders on the reel.

Incidentally, Mohanlal's rival on Malayalam cinema, Mammootty has also acted with Rajni in a film titled ‘Dalapathi’.

Rajni is said to have zeroed in on Mohanlal after his original plan to have Bollywood Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan in the movie failed because of Big B's illness and other preoccupations.

An offer from Rajnikant is considered to be a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Will Mohanlal give his nod ? Kollywood is waiting with bated breath.
