Sreekumaran The Surya Jyothika 'pyar ka silsila' came to a successful fruition on Monday, September 11, 2006. The most-talked-about romantic pair of Kollywood got married at a glittering and star-studded ceremony held at Park Sheraton hotel in Adayar, Chennai. 
Close relatives and friends of the star jodi were present at the marriage, billed as the most glamorous event in Kollywood in recent times. Bride Jo, wearing diamond jewellery, looked ravishingly stunning in a pink wedding saree (costing around Rs 3 lakh as per media reports). Bridegroom Surya was clad in a silk dhoti and shirt. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran actors Superstars Rajnikant , Kamal Haasan , Asin , Ajit , Prashanth , and Prakash Raj were among the VVIPs who attended the wedding. Another notable presence was that of Jyothika's sister Nagma , a popular actress herself, according to media reports. Surya's father, actor of yesteryears Shivakumar, took the thali to Chief Minister Karunanidhi for his blessings before handing it over to his son. The Surya-Jyothika pair first came together in the film, Poovellam Kettupaar. They went on to act in more movies such as Uyirile Kalandhu, Perazhagan, Mayavi and Kakka Kakka. In between the reel-life lovers had become lovers in real life, too. It became the staple of gossip columns for a long time before the lovers themselves admitted their feelings for each other. Of course, the path of true love never runs smooth. The Surya-Jyothika romance also ran into hurdles. Surya's father, actor Shivakumar of yesteryears was not initially agreeable to the marriage.
