Tamil superstar Rajnikant turns 57

It was a day to remember for the innumerable Rajnikant fans in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere.

For, the superstar turned 57 on Tuesday, triggering enthusiastic celebrations across the state by fans.

The fans chose a unique method to celebrate the birthday of the "Sultan of Style" by turning up in huge numbers to watch his film Chandramukhi , which has completed 600 days in various theatres in the state.

While newspapers and TV channels guessed over the whereabouts of the birthday boy, Rajni was said to be celebrating the day in his farmhouse near Chennai in the company of his newborn grandson.

The highest paid star in India, Rajni has completed shooting for the Shankar -directed flick, Sivaji , which is expected to be released early next year.

The veteran of over 160 movies, Rajni was working as a bus conductor when he made his debut in well-known director K Balachander's 'Apoorva Ragangal' which catapulted him to fame.

After playing villain in about 20 movies early in his career, Rajni turned hero and became the darling of the masses.

His film dialogues 'En Vazhi Thani Vazhi (My way is unique) and 'Naan Oru Thadava Sonna Nooru Thadava Sonna Madiri' (If I say something once, its equivalent to 100 times) in the blockbuster 'Padayappa' and 'Baasha', is still fresh in the minds of film buffs.

Rajni commands fan following from across the world. In fact, one of his films, 'Muthu' was dubbed into Japanese and went onto become a tremendous hit in Japan. A few Japanese fans even turned up for the special preview of his movie Baba .
