The Tamil film world is blazing a new trail of sorts. With big corporates taking into production, distribution and exhibition, Kollywood can be said to have entered the era of corporatisation.
The trendsetters in this connection are such companies as Pyramid Saimira, GV Films, Adlabs, UTV, Moser Baer, Ayngaran International and Ashtavinayak.
One of the first to take off the blocks as it were was the Anil Ambani-controlled Adlabs which jointly produced and marketed Tamil superstar Ajit’s latest movie, Kireedam , with Suresh Balaji.
Buoyed by the success of the venture, Adlabs and Soundarya Rajnikanth’s Ocher Studio are jointly producing ‘Sultan - The Warrior’, featuring superstar Rajnikant in an animated version.
But what takes the cake is Pyramid Saimira, which has 250 screens in South India, most of them in Tamil Nadu. Pyramid undertook distribution of Prakash Raj’s film, Mozhi , featuring Jyothika and Malayalam actor Prithviraj . The experiment was a roaring success.
The grapevine has it that Pyramid has taken up distribution and exhibition of another offbeat film, ‘Parthiban’s Ammuvagiya Naan’.
