Ritu Beri: From haute couture to pręt-a-porter

She has been at the helm of Indian haute couture designers. Now, under the wing of the famous marketing guru of fashion clothes Mounir Maufarrige, the twenty-eight-year-old Ritu Beri is all set to take on the world with her pręt-a-porter designs.

Mounir, the former president of the house of Chloe, spent almost a whole year sifting carefully through the designs of many a designer before he took fancy to Ritu Beri’s designs. For the Beri girl this is an astonishing News as it would implicate her transition from high visibility, ‘more-expensive, less-saleable’ haute couture designs to ready-to-wear, cheap and saleable clothes.

Using her favorite Italian fabric Ritu has plans to design clothes with international appeal (with some Indian flavor) exclusively for young women only. Along with her clothes will be the accessories like matching bags and footwear.

Ritu just showcased a collection of her designs at the recently-held Cannes Film Festival where the likes of Nicole Kidman (“Moulin Rouge”) wore dress designed by her. Besides she is fast emerging as an ace designer on the international fashion circuit.

So far Ritu has been a designer of haute couture but her arrangement with Mounir – a respectable name in the international market – could bring about a paradigm shift in her fashion designing career. There is every chance of her emerging as a global brand for ready-to-wear stuff that top retail stores of Paris, London, New York and Hong Kong can carry. And if things go her way, well then there is no stopping the talented Beri. Not even the sky would be the limit then.
