A delectable blend of exotic and ethnic at India Fashion Week

Indian fashion seems to have come of age as the imaginative creations of many Indian designers are being appreciated at the Lakme India Fashion Week in Mumbai.

An annual event, this year’s fashion week started on a high note with the chic collections from the likes of Rocky S, Aki Narula and Malini Ramani. And the ones to draw applause were Rohit Bal, Raghuvendra Rathore, Ritu Kumar and Manish Arora.

Rohit Bal’s collection ‘Balance’, was IFW's first all-male show. The clothes designed by Rohit conveyed the designer's impression of today's man. However, Rohit’s collection did have an Indian ethnic touch. That was evident in his lungis, which gave way to slim, well-cut short Western jackets with tapered pants. It was a profusion of whites and beige, with occasional red and orange splashes.

Raghavendra Rathore’s designs, on the other hand, were both modern and simple. Using fabrics like polyester blends, jacquards, linen, silk and wool and cotton, Rathore designed a new choli as a replacement for the kurta, jacket and the blouse.

Malini Ramani too got praise for her ‘spellbinding collection’ that boasted of flamboyant designs.
