Fashion designers opine that the current gypsy look of the clothes will give way to more demure styles and classic fads in the coming year.

Ritu Kumar , one of Indian’s topmost fashion designers, says the emphasis in the coming year will be more on demure shapes rather than the rugged styles of 2003.

“There will be a shift to pastel tones with an accent on chiffon. The traditional Indian outfit sari will once more be an in-thing,” according to Ritu.

Agrees Monisha Bajaj, who opines that the clothes will have a more classic look and black, burgundy and fuschia will be the colors of the coming seasons.

On the other hand, Suneet Varma feels that ice colors and pastels with icy edges would dominate the fashion in the year 2004. He believes that the silhouettes would become more narrow and in tune with the international trends.

Internationally renowned J.J Vallaya , who likes to do his own thing, says that blends of lycra, linen, silk and cotton will dominate his coming spring/summer collection. He thinks that the stress in the coming year would be more on antique colors with a pastel tinge.
