The seven days of fashion razzle-dazzle in Delhi will have sixty-one top designers showcasing their prêt-a-porter and diffusion collections.
Lakme India Fashion Week 2005 began on Wednesday at The Grand hotel with ramp shows of collections by designers Ritu Kumar , Rina Dhaka and Rocky S , among others. While Kumar’s designs bore her characteristic stamp of ethnicity, Dhaka’s creations departed from her typical sexy style to what she called “sophistication”.
On the opening day of the gala event, a book on Indian fashion, ‘Fashion India’ (authored by fashion writer Hindol Sengupta) was also released. The book is a comprehensive documentation of the Indian fashion industry. It carries the profiles of 32 of India's topmost designers including Tarun Tahiliani , Rohit Bal , Suneet Varma , J. J. Valya , Ravi Bajaj and others.
LIFW on Thursday will feature shows by designers Suneet Varma, Ranna Gill, Ashish Soni and Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna.
And the coming days will see the showcasing of latest collections by the likes of Anjana Bhargav (whose designs specialize in ‘Moods of white’), Sabyasachi Mukherji’s collection ‘The Nair Sisters’, Wendell Rodericks’ collection ‘Oceania’ and Deepika Govind’s ‘Layers Within – A study of contradictions’.
LIFW will also see some of the most happening parties. The first day ended with a party by FDCI at Decibel. Then there will be parties every night for the entire week at Olive at Mehrauli. And there will be a grand party on the final day of the event on April 26.
So, for the fashion fraternity it’s going to be a week of hard work and parties.
