HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | FASHION India Fashion Week drawing to a close25th Mar 2007 19.57 IST By Agencies Even as the five-day Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week is nearing its end today, styles and designs seemed repetitive during the weeklong jamboree that saw black and browns being used like never before. The concluding day of the week began with Jatin Verma and Renu Tandon exhibiting their collections on the ramp, followed by Aki Narula , Gaurav Gupta and Gunjan & Rahul. Monapali garnered appreciation just as Ashish Soni for their creations.
But the hands down winner of the entire Fashion Week had to be Manish Arora who with his alien theme and psychedelic designs was liked by almost all the bigwigs of the industry. "Manish Arora's work is of international standards, and is new and unique. Designers of his standard are ready for the international arena," Anna Orsini from the London Fashion Week said. Other designers who made waves with their collections were Varun Bahl and Monisha Jaisingh. Bahl, with his collection 'Order in Disorder', had swinging and voluminous silhouettes in sober colours of beige, moss green and blacks, which was termed as 'interesting' by many. Jaisingh's stylish garments with innovative embroidery techniques received its usual positive response. Fashionistas still have a lot to look forward to with Manju and Bobby Grover, Raghuvendra Rathore , Meera and Muzzafar Ali and Rajesh Pratap Singh slated to show their collection. While most of the designers who would be showcasing their collection on the last day are big names with a regular clientele, it needs to seen how feasible is it for a young designer to show his work on the last day. Some buyers have already left the Fashion Week after attending the first few days, while names that are popular in the domestic platform are yet to reach the level of recognition internationally to attract buyers for solely their shows. "For established designers it is alright to have their shows on the last days as they have an international reputation, but for some new designers the ramp is their platform and if they get to showcase it on the last day then they might not have the time to do business with buyers. And sometimes buyers leave early," a designer said. Often, buyers see the collection for the first time only on the ramp and there is not enough time to conduct business and finalise deals. "We have kept the sixth day March 26, just for business as some designers who had their shows on the last day complained they did not get enough time to conduct business after they had showcased their collection on the ramp. The sixth day is purely for serious business," FDCI Chairman Rathi Vinay Jha said. As for the glamour, it seems the India Fashion Week is outdoing itself every day with Day Four concluding with appearances by Sunil Shetty and Zayed Khan , who formed part of the audience, while Esha Deol walked the ramp for Vikram Phadnis .
