Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week begins in Delhi

Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week, the bi-annual fashion fiesta, kick started on Wednesday in New Delhi with ace designer Rajesh Pratap showcasing his Spring-Summer collection.

White seems to be the colour of the season, with the contour czar showcasing most of his collections in subtle hues.

Given the less-is-more direction which fashion seems to be heading, he opened the show with simple summer dresses in light weight fabrics of pure white with sprinkling of vibrant neon colours interpreted through graphic elements and geometric floral motifs.

"Rajesh's collection are silent loudspeakers. They speak for themselves," Alliance Merchandising Company CEO Sunil Sethi said adding this is for the first time the designer has bought some sheen and sparkle to his collection.

The first day was up on the glamour quotient with cricketer Kapil Dev making an appearance for designer Anjana Bhargav.

The associate sponsor of the event Essenza Di Wills has organised a makeover session where actor Tanushree Dutta would participate.

Organised by the country's apex fashion body Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), the five-day extravaganza is touted as the biggest trade fair for the fraternity.

As many as 71 established and new fashion designers are participating in this Spring-Summer edition of the fashion week to showcase their collections to around 70 buyers.

Other designers who showcased their collections on the first day include ManoViraj Khosla, Payal Jain, Shantanu and Nikhil and Rina Dhaka.

From freedom fighters to going green, the Indian designers seem to be inspired by varied motifs which they would showcase in the next four days.

"Fashion is not about the glamour and razmatazz. It's a serious business and we are trying to turn the fashion week into a leading business platform," FDCI Director General Rathi Vinay Jha said.

"There is a growing demand of Indian lines in the international market and this kind of event gives the designers an opportunity to share the platform with international buyers and consultants," she added.

The venue for the fashion fete shifted to Pragati Maidan from this edition.
