Gulshan Grover is the proverbial ‘Badman’ of Bollywood. Now, he will show a piece of his villainy in the next James Bond film.
‘Casino Royale’, the next Bond film that will introduce actor Daniel Craig as the new 007 agent, will have Gulshan Grover playing the role of Le Chiffre, the villain.
50-year-old Grover has played villain in many Hindi films and has earned the nickname of Bollywood’s ‘badman’.
“To be in ‘Casino Royale’ would be a real honour to me and my country,” Grover is quoted as saying by a British daily.
Grover told the Evening Standard: “In India the character of the villain is so integral to our storytelling. I have always enjoyed playing memorable 'bad men'…I have played so many negative characters in my time that people in India are often too scared to talk to me.”
The last time an Indian appeared in a Bond movie was in 1983 when actor Kabir Bedi and Tennis player Vijay Amritraj enacted marginal albeit important roles in ‘Octopussy’.
Gulshan Grover himself has been a part of several international projects in the past.
Shooting for ‘Casino Royale’ will begin in Prague early next year. The film is an adaptation of author Ian Fleming's first James Bond novel. It will be directed by ‘Golden Eye’ filmmaker Martin Campbell.
