The director of ‘Bend It Like Beckham’ plans to continue the tale of a Punjabi girl torn between her football ambitions and her conservative family in the sequel to the movie.
The movie, roughly based on Chadha’s own growing-up days, has Parminder Nagra playing the young Punjabi girl in love with football and an English guy, both things unacceptable to the mindset of her conservative Punjabi family living in the UK.
The Sun tabloid quotes Chadha as saying about the sequel: “I see it more as a continuation of the characters than an actual sequel. The first film was based on me when I was growing up, whereas this next one is going to be about my life afterwards.”
The sequel will feature all the important characters that were there in the original, including actress Keira Knightley, who played Nagra’s friend.
Gurinder says she will start working on the sequel after she is through with her current assignment.
