Deoshi The celluloid adaptation of Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling novel could arguably be called the most anticipated movie of the year 2007. Hosseini’s first novel ‘The Kite Runner’ has deeply touched millions of readers around the world. It tells a moving, heart-rending tale of two kids in Kabul before the Soviet Invasion in the 1970s.
Amir and Hassan are almost like brothers. Yet they are poles apart. Amir is rich and educated but he seeks his father’s love. Hassan lives in servant quarters but he sees Amir as a friend and is utterly loyal and devoted to him. The two friends enjoy flying kites in Kabul. But one incident changes their lives forever. ‘The Kite Runner’ is the story of how Amir betrays Hassan and lives with the guilt for the rest of his life. Hassan, on the other hand, stays unshakably loyal to Amir. The story also explores Amir’s relationship with his father and a friendly uncle. The movie version of the book is directed by Marc Forster and has child actors Zekeria Ebrahimi and Ahmed Khan Mahmidzada playing the adolescent Amir and Hassan respectively. The two kids are originally from Afghanistan. The film was initially supposed to release on November 2 but has now been postponed to December 14 over an issue of security of certain child artistes over a rape scene in the film. Parents feel a threat to their kids’ lives over shooting for this controversial scene. The story of the film is set in Afghanistan, USA and Pakistan.
