Coen Brothers win big at Oscars

The Coen Brothers’ movie ‘No Country For Old Men’ won the Best Picture at the 80th Annual Academy Awards on Sunday night at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles.

Joel Coen and Ethan Coen also won awards for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay. Actor Javier Bardem won Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘No Country’.

George Clooney’s jocular prediction that he would be the “Hillary (Clinton) of Oscars” this year came true as everyone’s favourite Daniel Day-Lewis won the Best Actor award for his brilliant performance of a ruthless oil prospector in ‘There Will Be Blood’.

Accepting the award, Lewis said: “My deepest thanks to the members of the Academy for whacking me with the handsomest bludgeon in town.”

The surprise of the evening was the Best Actress Award in which the jury ignored the popular favourite Julie Christie (for her portrayal as an Alzheimer’s patient in ‘Away From Her’) and gave the award to French actress Marion Cotillard for her performance in ‘La Vie en Rose’.
