Jim Carrey laughs his way to the top of US box office

An adaptation of Danny Wallace's book of the same name, the movie stars Carrey as a loser whose life takes a U-Turn after he learns the philosophy of saying "yes" to everything.

Released by Warner Bros, the movie earned USD 182 million over the weekend making it the numero uno movie of this week at the US box office.


The 46-year-old star insisted that through this film he tried to "put something good out into the world".

After 'Yes Man', the second slot was occupied by Will Smith's drama 'Seven Pounds' which grossed USD 16 million this weekend, the Contactmusic reported.

Debuting at No.3 with USD 10.5 million was Matthew Broderick's "The Tale of Despereaux." Last week's No.1 sci-fi movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still," dropped at the fourth position.

Reese Witherspoon's festive comedy 'Four Christmases' was at fifth while 'Twilight', the teen vampire movie was placed in the 6th position. Disney's 'Volt', the animated flick, was at 7th position.

British director Danny Boyle's movie Slumdog Millionaire , which tells the extraordinary tale of a slum-dweller in Mumbai ranked 8th with 3.1 million. Baz Luhrmann's romantic epic film 'Australia' was at ninth position and latest Bond flick 'Quantum of Solace' was at the tenth spot.
