I want to do diverse films and roles: Priyanka

Among the host of beauty queens who have blazed the Bollywood skyway in recent years with their uninhibited acting display and 'glamorous' looks, Priyanka Chopra clearly seems to be the busiest with almost every other filmmaker in Bollywood having signed her up.

Just a couple of years old in the industry, the former Miss World has already more than a dozen films in her portfolio ---Anil Sharma's The Hero , Suneil Darshan's Andaaz , Sanjay Gupta's Plan , Guddu Dhanoa's Kismat , Rajiv Rai's Asambhav , David Dhawan's Mujhse Shaadi Karogi , Abbas Mustan's 'Aetraaz', Vipul Shah's 'Waqt-A Race Against Time', Vikram Bhatt's 'Yakeen', Guddu Dhanoa's 'Gandhi'. The list seems endless.

While some of these (Anil Sharma's 'Hero', Suneil Darshan's 'Andaaz', Sanjay Gupta's 'Plan', Guddu Dhanoa's 'Kismat' and Rajiv Rai's 'Asambhav') have already been released, others are either on the verge of release or in different stages of production.

''Yes, I am quite fortunate to have had some really great roles coming my way in the very beginning of my career. For someone like me who comes from a non-film background, this, I think is fairly good going,'' Priyanka told a news agency in an interview.

Great going it may be for this dusky beauty from Barelly but one wonders whether being a part of these 'commercial ventures', where the greater focus is on the hero with beauties like Priyanka there just as 'glamour quotients', would in any way further her career.

''The people and the media will say what they want to say. However, the fact is that my roles in the above films are pivotal to the story. Had it been otherwise, I would have never taken them up,'' Priyanka said.

''In fact, all my films feature me in varied roles. Also, most of them belong to different genres, ranging from romantic dramas (like 'Aitraaz') to comedies ('Ek Haseena Ek Deewana' and 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi') to thrillers ('Asambhav' and 'Waqt'), which is what led me to take them up as it would help me prove my versatility as an actress,'' Priyanka said.

In this context, she points out that she took up Rajiv Rai's 'Asambhav', which released on July 23, because it gave her an opportunity to work in an out-and-out action film. In direct contrast is her next film, David Dhawan's 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', which is an out-and-out comedy.

''In any case, I feel that eventually my work in these films will speak for itself, no matter what anyone might say about the length or nature of my roles,'' she said.
