My script became the Bible for me: Manoj

Manoj Bajpai may not carry a superstar tag in Bollywood, but he is undoubtedly among the few talented actors to have sustained in the highly competitive film industry.

Every year, the National Award for the best actor is mired in some controversy over its recipient. But this year, when Manoj got the special jury award for his role in the movie Pinjar , there were no two opinions that he deserved it truly for his intense portrayal of Rashid in the partition saga.

Manoj says that he was so gripped by the character of Rashid in the movie based on Amrita Pritam’s novel, that he kept on reading the script again and again.

“I knew that the only way I could know Rashid was through the words of Amrita Pritam. And since the script of the movie was based upon the novel, I kept on reading and re-reading it until I began to feel like Rashid. My script became the Bible for me,” said Manoj in an interview.

When asked about his forthcoming movie Hanan , Manoj said he plays in it an interesting character of a man who has two sides to his personality.

“Sometimes he becomes a dhol player in a temple. And sometimes he would become like a 10-year-old child,” Manoj said about his character.

Manoj added that the movie’s director Makrand Deshpande sucked everything out of the actor inside him for this movie.

Hanan is presently making rounds at the international film festival circuits and will be commercially released early next year.
