Koena wary of doing item numbers again

Bengali bombshell Koena Mitra surely does not believe in the saying ‘once bitten twice shy’.

After gaining entry into Bollywood with the hot item number in Road , Koena understandably got numerous offers for hot raunchy item numbers.

But Koena kept on refusing all offers in the hope that one day a role of substance would come her way. But sadly all dreams are not fulfilled in this world of dreams called Bollywood and Koena soon found herself out of work.

So after waiting for two years, (‘Road’ came in 2002), Koena said ‘yes’ to Sanjay Gupta when he approached her with an offer of an item number in his forthcoming thriller Musafir .

Of course, Koena does immense justice to the song in that tiny shiny outfit gyrating to the hot number, but now she has again become apprehensive to do item songs.

In an interview to a leading daily, Koena said that she feels she has reached the end of the road as an item girl. She'll soon bump-n-grind for the last time
in a Ram Gopal Varma film.

Koena says that she is not really happy with her image of an item girl and has clearly told Varma that this would be the last item song she will do in his
films.

Koena says she wants to break out of the 'item girl' image and take up full-fledged acting assignments. She adds that she knows doing just item songs will get her nowhere.

Koena insists that she certainly doesn’t want to do art films for if she does, people will say she's lost her sizzle. From here on she will accept only meaningful offers and if it means exposing, she has no problems with that. But one thing's for sure – she refuses to be typecast as an 'item girl' in every film.

So the bottom-line is that Koena is ready to drop her inhibitions and her clothes, but not as an item girl, but in a full-fledged role.
