HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | INTERVIEWS Famous Sons remember their Fathers21st June 2005 13.31 IST By Agencies June 19 was Father's Day and some of the famous names in Bollywood took this opportunity to share their feelings about their fathers. Mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan : "My relationship with my father was always formal. Though I loved him in my own way, in those days children were not allowed to be effusive, and the same went for parents. I somehow missed that sense of camaraderie...
"I had decided long ago that I'd share a far less formal rapport with my own son when I would have one. I yearned to make my son my best friend. And Abhishek is my best friend. We share the same tastes. We exchange jokes, even dirty ones, just like friends. Yes, Abhishek wears my clothes and shoes, though I don't wear his. But of course, I miss my father." Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali : "I've long made peace with him." (Bhansali shared an uneasy relationship with his father when he was alive.) "All my films are dedicated to him, and if you see Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam , Salman Khan talks to his father just as I do. I feel that I connect with him better now than I ever did while he was there. "My father was a very gifted man with great knowledge of cinema and classical music. But he couldn't get his dues as a filmmaker, and he couldn't come to terms with his failure. We had to bear the brunt of his frustrations. Looking back, I can see a lot of his influence on me. My love for classical music, my love for cinema...There's so much I could've shared with him if he was here today." Director Karan Johar : "It's been a year since he passed away. Not a single day goes by without my thinking about dad. When I was a child I thought of my father as my grandfather as he was so much older, and had grey hair! We became very close during his last years. And just as we were turning into thick friends, he was snatched away." Producer-Director Vipul Shah : "Like all growing sons I had my share of differences with my father. A lot of what you see in 'Waqt' is to do with my father. Amitji's (Amitabh Bachchan) and Akshay's ( Akshay Kumar ) relationship replicates my own friction and bonding with my father." Actress, Director Asha Parekh: "To me, my father was both the parents after my mother's death. And he always said I was his 'only son' more than a daughter. His recent death has orphaned me. I don't think one grows up fully while parents are there. Then with both parents gone you've nowhere to go. I miss my father terribly. But I know he's with me even if I can't see him."
