While several critics have questioned the choice of Paheli as India's entry for the Oscars, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan , who has produced the film and stars in it, says it has 'all the colours of India' and is a 'forward thinking film for women'.

"In one line: it is the most interesting story I've heard in my whole career. A married woman falls in love with a ghost and then does she stay with the ghost or go with the husband? A choice she has to make," SRK said in an interview to BBC World's Talking Movies programme.

SRK described the Amol Palekar - directed movie as a 'very forward thinking film for women'.

"If you are unhappy in love or in a relationship, are you going to stick to it or are you going to make a choice even if it happens to be a ghost?" SRK, who was interviewed by BBC presenter Tom Brook, said.

The King Khan said it has 'all the colours of India, all the elements about what plagues India and what is wonderful about India'.

"So, I feel very nice that it is representative of cinema from our country for the Oscars," he said.

Describing the Oscars as the greatest award for filmmakers, SRK said, "It is something that all of us would wish that we get the Oscar also".

About the documentary made on his reel as well as real life by a London-based filmmaker, he said it felt a little odd 'selling his life'.

"As a matter of fact, even to talk about this documentary as a commercial prospect is a little embarrassing for me. I mean it's, I'm not selling a film; I'm selling my life, which is a little odd," he said.

On what the documentary reveals about him, he said "But I think what it covers is, it's a quieter version of me. It's a more internal version of me," SRK said in the interview to be aired on BBC World this week as part of the channel's India Week of programming.

Asked about what makes him so appealing to his fans, he said he does not think he is the kind of person that one can look at and say he would want to look like him.

"First, I thought I was just plain lucky but you can't be so lucky for so many years. Then I think God has been kind to me, which is really nice; it can't be my talent because I know there are more talented people than me," he said.

On endorsing products, he said his logic was that if he was using something honestly, he would not mind telling people that it was good.

On his gay image, SRK said, "they give me different names. They say, metrosexual, and they say that I appeal to men and women alike."

In this context, he also referred to his new ad for the lux soap in which he is shown in a bathtub, and said, "... they say guys like it. It's okay. You know, for an actor who's trying... first, I have nothing against anybody's sexuality. It's wonderful, if you are what you are, and are comfortable with it. I am quite comfortable with mine."
