Bhansali is a director for whom filmmaking is cathartic. Through his movies he deals with his inner anguish. His very first film ‘Khamoshi’ was about his extreme introversion and his silence as an adolescent. And his subsequent films dealt with one or another of his ‘inner demons’.
And now comes ‘Saawariya’.
“It (Saawariya) is about the agony I went through when I saw my grandmother spent her whole life waiting for my father.
“Sometimes she would wait in the balcony till 4 in the morning. That waiting of hers represented to me a love that fascinates me. ‘Saawariya’ is my tribute to her,” says Bhansali.
The filmmaker also adds that he deliberately chose newcomers to star in the film.
“After Black I wanted to take on a bigger challenge. I decided to work with newcomers so that I would be on my toes again,” says Bhansali.
