Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says he never knew that he was popular among the French.
King Khan was honoured with the title of 'Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters' by the French government on Sunday.
Prior to the function in a suburban hotel, SRK said in an agency interview: "I came to know that people in UK knew me after I travelled there. But I never knew people in France also knew about me."
The superstar said he was proud that people in France have come to know about Indian culture through films.
"I am proud we have taken our culture and identity to France through the medium of our films," SRK said.
When asked if he has seen French cinema, Shah Rukh said he used to go to the French Cultural Centre in Delhi to watch their movies since he was told it was the best cinema.
"But I also used to watch it for the lovemaking scenes," he said, showing his trademark candour.
The French title was conferred to Khan by French Ambassador in India, Jerome Bonnafont, at the inaugural ceremony of a four-day French film festival in Mumbai.
