As his directorial debut U Me Aur Hum is set to hit the theatres in the coming week, Ajay Devgan says his transition from acting to direction was natural.

So far he was known for his acting prowess. Now Devgan has taken the plunge into direction with ‘U Me Aur Hum’, starring wife Kajol opposite him. Being the actor, director and co-producer of the film, Devgan has joined the ranks of few celebrated Bollywood stars like Raj Kapoor , Guru Dutt , Manoj Kumar and Aamir Khan who have handled the three departments simultaneously in their respective projects.

Just days before the film’s release on April 11, Devgan says in an agency interview that for him it was not a major shift from acting to direction as he believes that he is a born director and has that fire within him.

"I started my career directing small budget films, so it was not a major change. In my early days, apart from acting in movies, I tried my hand in production, direction, music composing and all.

"I assisted my father in his directorial ventures several times and both of us knew that I have the flame in me to develop an idea and give it a shape. But then, I became an actor and didn't get the time to direct," says the debutant director.

Devgan is very positive about the success of his first directorial attempt. He believes he has done justice with the script and has come out with an entertaining story.

"We all in the team have put our heart out in making this film. It is very close to my heart," he says.

Devgan is all praise for wife Kajol when asked about the experience directing her.

"Kajol is a wonderful actress to work with and I couldn't have imagined any other actress playing her role…She managed such a difficult character with ease that she made it look very simple. I am not saying this as a husband, but from the point of view of director," says Devgan.

About directing films in the future, Devgan said: "I will continue with direction as it is my favourite hobby or you can say a passion. I will not make a movie only for the sake of it, but will do it only when a right script will come my way."
