The usual song and dance routine is the essential ingredient of a Bollywood movie. And in every song there go many hours of arduous labor by a choreographer who minutely works out all the movements and dance steps for hero, heroin and the rest of the dancing troupe.

The talk of choreographers calls to mind a name that has ruled the roost in Bollywood for 4 decades – Saroj Khan. From Madhuri Dixit in Ek Do Teen to Aishwarya Rai in Nimbooda Nimbooda, many an actresses and actors have gone through Saroj Khan’s hip-swinging grind.

She is again being talked about for her dance sequences picturised on Hrithik Roshan in Khalid Mohammad’s soon-to-be-released Fiza.

Not for nothing has the dance sequence been described as tandav nritya. Hrithik’s beefcake physique swaying to Saroj Khan’s baton has brought about altogether an intense emotive appeal in the choreographed sequence that seems to have sent the movie buffs in a tizzy. Moreover, to lend some vigor to Hrithik’s movements the lady did not dither to pinch in a few martial arts steps.

Although she faces competition from the likes of Farha Khan and Ganesh, Saroj Khan has her hands full with some exciting projects like Vinod Chopra’s Mission: Kashmir, Raj Kanwar’s Dhai Akshar Prem Ka, Aamir Khan’s Lagaan. Besides, she’s also choreographed the dance sequences for Manoj Bajpai’s Ghaath and Harry Baweja’s Deewane.

She is pushing 40, received six Filmfare Awards and innumerable films but Saroj Khan is showing no signs of slowing down.
