Shubha Mudgal is slowly forging ahead as a singer with a cause.

Shubha is a committed singer for AVUT (Association of Victims of the Uphaar Tragedy) and has been singing in the programmes that have been organized in the memory of the victims that perished in one of the worst cinema hall fire in India in June 1997.

Yesterday (August 29, 2000) again, Shubha dedicated her entire repertoire to the victims of the Uphaar tragedy in a concert at New Delhi's Kamani Auditorium.

Speaking on singing for a cause Shubha says: "Singing is a passion for me. But when there is an objective in the occasion to benefit those in need, I sing from the innermost core of my heart".

A familiar song, 'Man ke manjeere' on a music channel on television has Mita Vashisht lip-syncing and driving a truck. The song is sung by Shubha Mudgal and has its origin from a true life story of a young woman from Ahmedabad called Shameem Pathan, who, fed up with the torture she received at her husband's hands leaves her husband and goes in search of a better life with her little son.

There are other numbers in the album that tell stories, all real stories with the theme of new age women who want to make choices.

Like in the case of singing for the Uphaar victims, even the 'Man ke manjeere' songs are sung with a definite aim. Shubha lends her voice, talent and vigor to be used as a medium to share people's sorrows, hopes and dreams.

This way, Shubha hopes to motivate people to swing into action and do something in concrete terms to alleviate their sufferings.
