“Music knows no boundaries” for Pakistani Sufi singer Abida Parveen who will perform in Mumbai on Saturday.
With her spirited and emotion-filled voice, Abida is known for giving her listeners a glimpse of that elusive ecstasy and the inner calm which many sufi singers strive for. After the unparalleled Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Abida is one of the leading sufi singers from Pakistan.
Her characteristic renditions of the poetry of Baba Bulleh Shah, Hazrat Amir Khusrau, Hazrat Shah Hussain and Kabeer have made her a favorite among the music lovers in India.
The fifty-one-year-old sufi queen ‘entranced’ Delhiites last week at the Jahan-e Khusrau festival and now she is off to Mumbai for her first performance there on March 12, Saturday, at the Jamshed Bhabha Auditorium, NCPA.
The concert is being organized by the Rotary Club and the proceeds from the show will be used for the betterment of Mumbai's slum population.
