HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | MUSIC Today's music is full of vulgarity: Lata Mangeshkar22nd Oct 2005 22.21 IST By Agencies Today's music is full of vulgarity, the importance of songs is marginalised, rues melody queen Lata Mangeshkar . She regretted, in an interview to Prabhu Chawla on Aaj Tak's Seedhi Baat programme that there were very few good music directors and lyricists like Gulzar and Javed Akhtar and directors like Yash Chopra .
Lata said there was no difference between the heroine and vamp. The heroine has a multi-role and the songs were the same, they have no range. Sad melodies are rare, songs are made for group dances, she told the channel. "Talent cannot be judged by any contests as the judges look for stage performances rather than singing ability. All these contests are temporary," she said. The nominated Rajya Sabha member said, "I am not interested in politics at all". Lata recalled how Anil Biswas taught her the art of breath control in the early days of her career. On her 'problems' with music director O P Nayyar, she said, "I agree with him that my voice was not suitable for his music." But with Raj Kapoor, it was conflict over royalty and S D Burman had some misunderstanding but later the things were settled, she said. Noting that music and family were the two important things in her life, she said, "I only looked after my family as there were many responsibilities on me and only loved music."
