The journey from the world of advertising to Bollywood has taken copywriter-turned-lyricist Virag Mishra six years and the adman seems to have come into his own with Zinda .

The edgy title track "Zinda Hoon Mein" from the Sanjay Dutt - John Abraham thriller - for which Mishra has penned the lyrics - is doing well on the charts though his earlier efforts did not quite click.

"The songs that I wrote for 'Waisa Bhi Hota Hai' didn't find their way into the movie but were made into a lounge album and had all of UK swinging," says the Abby nominated creative director.

The 30-year-old, in an interview in New Delhi, also says he has spent close to six years in the Hindi film industry, which is a "higher art form" than advertising and the "ultimate destination" for creative minds.

Comparing the two, Mishra says in both the mediums one has to "talk" to the audience. "Speak like you would to a child so that he understands it in one go, remembers who said it and becomes your loyalist."

He admires poet-lyricists Gopal Das Neeraj and Santosh Anand and hopes to "cut through the noise with quality work".

He is also very enthusiastic about "sharing space" with Javed Akhtar and Gulzar and sees his work in cinema as a path to "self actualisation".

Singer-songwriter Shibani Kashyap - who croons the title track of 'Zinda' - describes Mishra as an "amazingly spontaneous and talented guy; not contrived and open to suggestions".

"Virag understands what is commercially viable and combines that with honesty and a whackiness," she says.
