HOME | SCOOP!! & NEWS | MUSIC Britney Spears scores a hat-trick at MTV video awards09th Sept 2008 18.10 IST Pop sensation Britney Spears scored a hat-trick at MTV’s Video Music Award night by winning three VMA’s for her “Piece of me” track. The singer skirted the controversy this year by appearing in a rather pretty Versace dress with heavy sequined work as she opened the awards night with an announcement: “I'm here tonight to celebrate a very important birthday... This is the 25th Video Music Awards – and it starts right now.” 
The evening turned quite a memorable one for Britney as she won best female video for her “Piece of me” album, and even Best Pop and Video of the year award, respectively for the same track. Britney didn’t perform at the event. She was thrilled while holding the Moonman and said, “Wow, thank you, I’m shocked right now, and I was not expecting this.” For the last few years, Britney was in news not for her singing or albums but for her relations and her public behaviour. She has gone through a very bad phase, from being into rehab to getting into the disputes regarding the custody of her two sons. She became popular instantly with her song “Baby one more time” in the year 1998 with her album soaring high in its sales, breaking all the previous records. She was linked with singer Justin Timberlake and later got married to dancer Kevin Federline, from whom she had two sons.
