Some silly fun

Look for some genuine belly laughs from this no-brainer comedy and you will Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge .

Okay, we all know intelligent comedies are dead, but our hope for one is not. And to be fair, DRJ does stab you at times with its infectious silliness and makes you snicker with his juvenile humour. But for its most part, the film is a heap of silly slapstick that fails to stick for someone searching (dhoonding, anyone?) for two-plus hours of pure fun, even on a paid-for ticket.

Kunal Khemu plays a chartered accountant whose honesty has led him to the rock bottom of life...Always is the case... Paresh Rawal plays a flop film producer burdened in debt. The duo team up to make a couple of easy crores by raising finance for a movie, embezzling a fat part of it into their own pockets, and with the remaining amount make a film that they want to flop in its first show so they won't have to pay back the investors.

To further ensure the film's doom, Kunal ropes in his overacting Bengali girlfriend ( Soha Ali Khan ) as the heroine, while Paresh ropes in as hero an out-of-luck superstar ( Sonu Sood ) whose last few films were superflops. As the final nail in the coffin, they get a failed writer ( Johnny Lever ) with an irrevocably muddled imagination.

Titled 'Solay Se Lagaan Tak', the film is made to bite the box office dust. But what if it becomes a superhit!!!

The first half of DRJ fizzles out somewhere between yawns and cola gulps. The film just fails to draw a viewer in. Things gather a little momentum when the film within the film begins to get made and spoofs of Bollywood blockbusters like Solay...sorry!... Sholay , Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge , Gadar and Lagaan are hurled at you.

While most of the gags fall flat on face, some manage to bring a chuckle or two. But instead of feeling joyous, you feel embarrassed for having related to the buffoonery on the screen.

Kunal Khemu and Paresh Rawal make the film somewhat watchable, while Johnny Lever is predictably over the top. Sonu Sood doesn't seem to have a genuine funny bone in his well-cared-for bod. The spoofs in DRJ fail because the man enacting them isn't funny enough. Soha is just about okay.

Director Umesh Shukla has made a frivolous film that makes no bones about being silly. So if you have an appetite for such silly, childish humour, do catch this film for some timepass fun at the theatres soon. For after a few days you might 'Dhoondte Reh Jaaoge'.
