RATING: 6 The real life jodi of Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapur will be seen together onscreen for the first time in TIPS' romantic thriller Fida. The movie, also starring Fardeen Khan, is believed to be an out-of-the-ordinary love story in which both Kareena and Shahid play characters with shades of gray.
The film's music, by Anu Malik, is in keeping with its theme. Sameer's words, as usual, are trite and without poetic depth. But who's complaining when the melodies composed by Malik go easy on the ears.
The album opens with a dance track Aaja Ve Mahi, which is a Punjabi number nicely blended with modern beats. Malik resorts to an overuse of techno sounds in this song and singer Blaise does a fair rap 'n' reggae rendition, enough to encourage someone to hit the dance floor. The song also has Kareena and Shahid chipping in for a small portion. While Kareena sounds a bit husky, Shahid's voice is a boyish.
The next song Nazar Nazar is reminiscent of Malik's previous compositions. The melody of the song is pretty catchy and the singing by Udit Narayan and Sapna Mukherjee too is commendable. Overall quite an impressive number. Perhaps that is why there is also an instrumental version of the song by Bipin Panchal later in the album.
Then follows a fast-paced love track Maine Jisko Chaha sung by Indipopper Alisha Chinai and sweet-voiced Sonu Nigam. The song is high on tempo but low on melody.
Another song that catches a listener's attention is the soft and lilting Dil Mere Naa, a touching duet by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. Malik uses a fine combination of musical instruments to create the romantic feel and Sameer too surprises with his meaningful words in this song.
The album concludes on a melodious note as Anu Malik comes up with another composition carrying his trademark stamp. The song Aaj Kaho Sanam Jitna features singer Kumar Sanu with Alka Yagnik joining him in the middle of the track. Thankfully, Sanu sounds less mushy than his usual self in this track.
There is no doubt that the music of Fida is much better than some of the other recent releases in Bollywood. The album has just five songs and a surprise in store with a ' dialogue and song' promo of the movie included in the middle of the album.
