- The Girlfriend Music Review

Considering that director Karan Razdan's 'Girlfriend' is based on the theme of a girl's obsession for another girl, the movie's music, full of love duets and seductive numbers, comes as a bit of a surprise.

The selling point of the film's songs, composed by Daboo Malik, is its soft and lilting music and its ear catching melodies. The lyrics by Praveen Bhardwaj are a mix of poetic innovations and trite verses.

The album begins with a seductive number Thodi Tumse Shararat, sung together by sweet voiced Sonu Nigam and Shreya Ghosal. The light mood of the song and its mellifluous music makes for a good listening. A sad version of the same song appears later in the album.

The album then nudges into a romantic mood with Kumar Sanu showing his vocal skills for the solo number Tere Chehre Se Nazar. Although the lyrics and music of this song is quite average, it still carries an overall appeal. Later, Shreya Ghosal sings another version of this song.

Then comes another love song Hamara Dil that has lyrics by Anwar Sagar. This song is probably the best of the lot with simple music and good singing by Sunidhi Chauhan and Abhijit. Perhaps that is why it is repeated again in the album. However, one oddity that sticks out in this track is Abhijit's portion when he breaks the flow and the tempo of the song.

Then comes a peppy number Suno To Jaana Jaana which is a typical hip-hop number with a heavy use of beats. The song, sung together by Sunidhi Chauhan and Vaishali Samant, has a good doze of techno sounds and foot tapping beats. This song makes for a good dancing number.

'Bheegi Bheegi' is another erotic number filled with various moods. The song starts slowly and then the two singers - Shaan and Sowmya Raoh - lift up the tempo after few lines. Music director Daboo Malik also chips in this song by narrating a line or two in the middle.

On the whole, 'Girlfriend's music will appeal to the listeners chiefly due to its lilting sounds and melodious musical arrangements.
