The Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain Movie Review

Watch a different Govinda
By Ajay Chaturvedi
Rating: 3/5

Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain has both Govinda and Urmila Matondkar playing sober characters, which is not what they are known for.

The story of the film revolves around two neighboring families. One family is headed by Sethji (Paresh Rawal) and the other by Devyani (Dimple Kapadia).

Rahul (Govinda) is Sethji's son. He has just returned to his native town after completing his studies. Radhika (Urmila Matondkar), is Devyani's sister-in-law, recently arrived from the village.

Devyani is a widowed, businesswoman, with no time for the family, not even son.

Sethji, an affluent businessman, had bought the neighboring plot of land from Devyani's late husband. Devyani, but naturally, had no inkling of the transaction. She, therefore, harbors resentment towards the cattle-raising, mall-owning, family.

Radhika and Rahul, predictably, fall in love. This does not happen easily, though. As usual, romantic songs help the lovebirds.

Devyani, being the businesswoman that she is, sets off for Bombay with her entourage, to conduct business meetings with the atrocious looking Dhananjay (Nirmal Pandey). He sets his eyes on Radhika.

Devyani is impressed with Dhananjay She is also aware of Rahul and Radhika's clandestine meetings, so she offers Radhika's hand in marriage to Dhananjay, who delightedly accepts.

The film has Sattu (Johnny lever) and Champa, the neighboring servants who also fall in love, to prepare the ground for some comedy.

Govinda is superb as Rahul. His fans won't be disappointed. Urmila does a fair job, of being a naive, traditional kind of Indian girl. Dimple, who makes a very fashionable vamp, impresses.

Uttam Singh's music is soothing. The title song is the best of the lot.

Overall, a good film.
