RATING: 5 Though the music of 'Luck By Chance' is not out of the ordinary, it has its moments. Composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the album has eclectic fusion of typical Bollywood music with sufi, Indo-classical and Rajasthani folk. Lyrics by Javed Akhtar go along well with the mood of the tunes.
When the Akhtars meet Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the outcome is expected to be something unconventional. And that is precisely is the music score of 'Luck By Chance', a black comedy based on the strugglers and budding actors of Bollywood, starring Farhan Akhtar and Konkana Sen Sharma in lead.
O Rahi Re track sung by Shankar Mahadevan is a simple song on life's philosophy. Music is light and Shankar's usual style of singing makes this track worth listening again and again. The same mood is carried forward by the next song Sapnon Se Bhare Naina that has a sprinkling of Indo-classical music with impressive vocals again by Shankar Mahadevan. What is remarkable about this song is its lyrics that are like Kabir's dohas. Apart from the classical feel, the music has a lounge effect.
Ye Aaj Kya Ho Gaya is a typical Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy number. The track, very much like 'Yeh Tumahri Meri Batein' from 'Rock On', is a wonderful rendition by Sunidhi Chouhan.
One great number is Baaware sung by Shankar, Ila Arun, Loy and a set of Rajasthani traditional singers. This number starts as a total Rajasthani folk track but later gets infused with electronic beats. An energetic number crafted well keeping the folksy feel. Highly experimental. The remix version will work well for discotheques.
Yeh Zindagi Bhi evokes nostalgia of 'Kal Ho Naa Ho' tracks in terms of arrangements. The song features mellow and soothing vocals by Loy Mendonca and Shekhar Ravjiani. An average mellifluous track.
There is one typical Bollywood song in the album in the form of Pyar Ki Daastan rendered impressively by Indian Idol runner up Amit Paul and Mahalakshmi Iyer. A romantic number which you can play in repeat mode while you are driving or day-dreaming.
The music of 'Luck By Chance' is like Akhtar's previous films, say 'Dil Chahta Hai' or 'Lakshya'. But it is experimental best by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The tracks are easy on the ears, not high on heavy beats and music. The only exception is 'Baaware'.
