M F Hussain's Meenaxi - Tale of 3 Cities is set in the three cities of Hyderabad, Jaisalmer and Prague. The movie's music by A R Rahman is in keeping with the film's theme and incorporates various sounds and styles ranging from Sufi music to western symphonies.

Song Yeh Rishta features a new singer Reena Bhardwaj who impresses with her vocal range and intonation. Rahat Indori's lyrics are thoughtful and carry a deep meaning between words.

Sukhwinder Singh's Chinnamma Chilakkamma is undoubtedly one of the best sung songs in the album. The talented singer moves up and down the octaves with the skill of a veteran and brings about energy and an emotive appeal that lends tremendous power to Rahman's composition. In fact, Sukhwinder has himself penned this song.

Then follows the sweet and lilting number Do Kadam Aur Sahi sung by the mellow-voiced Sonu Nigam.

Another soft number in the album is Asha Bhosle's Dhuan Dhuan, which has amazing orchestra, wonderful sound arrangements and great lyrics. Ashaji has rendered the song is such a manner that it brings an erotic feel.

Rahman's fascination with the Sufi music becomes evident in Rang Hai which appears to be inspired from the traditional Sufi qawwali Aaj Rang Hai by Hazrat Amir Khusrao.

Another song that carries the touch of Sufi music is Noor-Un-Ala-Noor by Murtuza Khan and Qadir Khan. The song, written by M F Hussain, is another masterpiece in the album.

The album also features two instrumental tracks. The first is 'Cyclist's rhythm', an experimental composition that starts in a subtle manner with the gentle ring of a cycle's bell and then slowly catches pace and tempo. The second is 'Potter's village', which incorporates sounds of musical instruments like Ravanhanta from Rajasthan and Ruhbaab from Persia.
