It's time for some Kashmiri folk - The mission kashmir Music Review
RATING: 6 Director Vidhu Vinod Chopra's films are known for their delectable music scores.
The same goes for the music of his next film Mission Kashmir starring Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta and Jackie Shroff.
The album is a brave attempt on the part of music directors Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy to give something really fresh and different from the usual, corny run-of-the-mill music in Bollywood.
The trio's compositions exude musical magnetism and are set against the backdrop of an amalgamation of Indian and Western sounds. Sameer and Rahat Indori's lyrics go well with the theme of the film.
The album opens with the foot tapping number 'Bumbro' (picturized on Hrithik and Preity Zinta) and nudges into Alka Yagnik's gentle crooning in 'Chupke se sunn', a soft and lilting song. Shankar Mahadevan is at his alto in 'Rind posh maal', which has a folksy flavor and a sing-along chorus to boot.
Sameer's imaginative words literally take you through the valleys of Kashmir in 'Socho ke jheelo ka', a low tempo duet rendered by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. Full spirited Vinod Rahthod is outstanding in 'Maaf karo', a pure Indipop number that changes into a somewhat listless drool as Anuradha Paudwal takes over.
Singer Mahalaxmi sings you to sleep in the gentle lullaby 'So ja chanda' and the album closes with Rahat Indori's attempt to kindle patriotic emotions in 'Dhuan dhuan'.
Mission Kashmir promises a bright future for the music trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy. The surprising simplicity of their music coupled with the striking articulation of the tenderness and exclusive choice of lyrics go well to an extent, to weave melodious numbers. If only singers had delivered their prodigious best, it would have been an album to seriously reckon with. Still it is worth one's money.
