The Moksha: Salvation Movie Review

In �Moksha� Ashok Mehta goes a little overboard in showing his cinematographic talent and thereby smothers a could-have-been social commentary under a barrage of technically sleek shots.

Switching on and off from black-and-white mode to color Mehta moves his camera at every conceivable angle but ignores what is believed to be the back bone of any good film - a tight script.

It is this fact that gives the film a commercial ad look. Like �Aks� (which was also an ad filmmaker's debut film) �Moksha� is visually gripping but lacking in content where the story is concerned.

For instance, Vikram's character is infused with an extra dose of cynicism. As a law graduate he scoffs off every established judicial system and rather prefers to while away his time riding horses and driving Mahindra jeeps.

And when a suave lass wants to woo him he as a resolute no for an answer. But he is flattered after she buys him an expensive painting. Even Vikram's idea to form a novel institution to impart true justice seems too na�ve to accept. Certainly his character could have done with some intelligent pruning.

As a result the film ends up being Arjun Rampal's celluloid portfolio - highlighting his debonair persona and his finely sewn features to the hilt. On the flip side Manisha seems wasted in a role that relegates her to the margins.

Even the presence of veterans like Naseeruddin Shah and Paresh Rawal fail to inject fervor into this lifeless story.
