No Smoking Preview
|Through a haze of smoke he sees his own doom.|
Anurag Kashyap's upcoming movie 'No Smoking' is a dark comedy. The film has a very unusual storyline.
John Abraham plays the lead role. Others in the cast include Ayesha Takia , Ranvir Shorey and Paresh Rawal .
John Abraham as K
K is a thirty-year-old smart Alec. Stubborn and obnoxious, K thinks he knows best and does exactly what he wants. He took his first drag as a teenager and got hooked.
Now, K is addicted to nicotine. Nothing can come between him and his cigarette - neither his wife, nor his friends and not even his own life.
Ayesha Takia as Anjali/Honey
She is pretty and addicted to tearjerkers and soaps. She surprisingly still cares for that son of a bitch of her husband, but she detests his smoking. She looks mild but has a mind of her own. She can take drastic decisions if she must.
Paresh Rawal as Baba Bengali
He is a sweet talking man with draconian actions. Autocratic and dictatorial, he guarantees mind-blowing results, provided his clients obey his every order to the T. If they don't, even God cannot save them from his vengeful wrath.
Ranvir Shorey as Abbas
He is guilty of introducing K to his first cigarette. Abbas too has tread the same nicotine stained path. But love for his wife has made him quit. He is making amends by introducing K to Baba Bengali. His bandaged fingers are a gruesome reminder of what can happen if K fails.
STATUTORY WARNING. Cigarette smoking can be injurious to your health, to your fingers, to your beloved, and to people close to you.
What if a man is caught in a situation like this: A compulsive smoker vows to kick the habit and quit smoking. But if he disobeys, the consequences can be dire.
If he touches a cigarette with the intention of lighting up, his car may be blasted into pieces. Too bad if he is sitting in it.
If he lights a cigarette, his asthmatic brother will be forced to inhale all the cigarette smoke he has exhaled all these years.
If he lights up a second cigarette, he won't have anything left to hold that cigarette with. Meaning, his fingers may be chopped off.
If he still persists with his habit and doesn't quit smoking, he may lose the only person he has loved the most.
In the end, he may get a final choice to choose between his own very life and the nicotine stick.
Is cigarette dearer to him than his life, than his wife, than his fingers?
'No Smoking' has Ayesha Takia in double roles. One is that of John's wife Anjali. Another is that of his secretary Honey.
'No Smoking' is jointly produced by Vishal Bharadwaj and Kumar Mangat .
Initially, Anurag Kashyap wanted to cast Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role in this film. But the superstar showed no interest in the project. Later, Vishal Bharadwaj suggested signing Saif Ali Khan for the role, but Kashyap had already finalized John Abraham by then.
The movie has a special item number by Bipasha Basu . The song 'Phook De' is composed by Bharadwaj. Another song 'Jab Bhi Cigarette Jalti Hai' has model Jesse Randhawa in a special appearance.
'No Smoking' has been shot in India, Uzbekistan and Russia. The film is edited by Kashyap's wife Aarti.
The movie is set to hit the theatres on October 26.
