If the music industry is considered ruthless, manipulative and cutthroat, these terms certainly do not apply to A.J., the most popular singer/composer New York has ever seen. However, if prodigious talent, passion, and attitude are considered synonymous with the music industry, then Reggi fits the bill. Young and hugely talented, he hungers and craves for A.J.'s spot at the top. Into these lives enters two women: the aspiring singer Ruhi and the ambitious P.R. professional Sheena. Ruhi, while she has much professional respect for A.J., she has been wooed and won over by Reggi. Sheena, on the other hand, holds a grudge against Reggi because, while she did a lot for him as a PR, he had rejected her in a personal relationship. As A.J. and Reggi face off against each in a do or die battle, envy and betrayal rear their ugly heads, and talent struggles to survive the onslaught of a carefully orchestrated smear campaign... Music will be the ultimate winner... and loser... in SHAKALAKA BOOM BOOM!

Storyline
The story of 'Shakalaka Boom Boom' is set against the international music industry. AJ (Bobby Deol) is the most popular music star in New York. He has a right mix of talent, looks and attitude. AJ considers himself above the cutthroat competition of the music industry.
But AJ's position is threatened with the arrival of a newcomer Reggi on the music circuit. Reggi is prodigiously talented and lusts for success.
Helping Reggi realize his dream of reaching the top spot is PR professional Sheena (Celina Jaitley). She uses all her PR skills to create a flourishing career for Reggi. But when the young singer spurns her, Sheena, too, decides to get even with him.
And then there is Ruhi (Kangana Ranaut) a promising singer who admires AJ's super success. But her heart has been won over by Reggi.
As AJ and Reggi lock in the battle of musical supremacy, Sheena and Ruhi become mere pawns in their manipulative game.
The lives of these four people are connected by music. Music will be their savior and their destroyer.
'Shakalaka Boom Boom' delves into human relationships. Success, ambition, fame, envy, jealousy, love and betrayal, all are part of the lives of the characters of the movie's story.
