Deepak Tijori ought to know that childish buffoonery is not synonymous to comedy.
His movie 'Tom Dick and Harry' is supposed to be a comedy of errors. The movie is an intended farce revolving around a number of silly and senseless characters, primary among them being the deaf Tom, blind Dick and dumb Harry. The film relies a great deal on lewd and smutty jokes, with an obvious double meaning attached. Women are treated as no more than objects of desire and sexual gratification, except when they show their muscle power against the baddies.
Deaf Tom (Dino Morea) and dumb Harry (Jimmy Shergill) are friends making an honorable living by selling condoms. The blind Dick (no pun intended) joins them and the three almost make for a perfect silly lot, becoming each other's voice, ear and sight. They share an apartment owned by a sardar named Happy, a lecher in the prime of his libido.
This lot of the three mutually compatible 'defective pieces' falls for their sexy neighbour (Celina Jaitley) and they try every silly trick in the book of girl-wooing to get her attention.
Enters the badman Soprano (Gulshan Grover), a narcissistic villain whose inspirational icons happen to be Hitler and Bin Laden. Soprano 'traffics' girls from India to all over the globe and Celina happens to be his next target.
This is where Tom, Dick and Harry come in. They save Celina and make Soprano their enemy.
On the sidelines is the character of a fisherwoman, Bijli (Kim Sharma), a blabbermouth who falls for the deaf Tom.
Ironically, Shakti Kapoor plays a cop who conducts a 'sting operation' to trap Soprano.
The film also takes a spoofy dig at several famous characters from Hindi films. Sample this - Mogambo, Gabbar Singh and Shaakaal are some of the deputies of Soprano.
On the other hand, the three heroes, Tom Dick and Harry, dress up as Mangal Pandey, the longhaired Salman from 'Tere Naam' and the white-robed Anthony from 'Amar Akbar Anthony' in the movie's climax to fight the bad guys. Sadly, all this is supposed to be humourous.
Deepak Tijori makes sure (once again) to put in enough of oomph quotient in the film. There is busty Kim Sharma flaunting her valley-like cleavage and jiggling her wares to the ogling eyes of the male characters in the film (and outside, too). There is Celina Jaitley who appears in a variety of skimpy outfits and maintains a sensuous expression on her face, even though she is supposed to be playing a cop.
Among Dino, Jimmy and Anuj Sawhney (playing Dick), Dino manages to not make a fool of himself while the other two merely end up looking as poor caricatures. Bobby Darling makes an irritating cameo which is intended to be funny.
The gags and humour in the film is childish. The dialogues are lewd and vulgar (the condom jokes). The script and screenplay is like the product of a hair-brained writer. The direction by Tijori is wishy-washy.
In short, the silly humour, poor script and shoddy direction mark the triple whammy for 'Tom Dick and Harry', which is tripe of a film.
