‘Muhammad Kutty Ismail’, the passport name of Malayalam superstar Mammootty was enough to make him a suspect at JFK International Airport in New York.
56-year-old Mammootty, whose full name is ‘Muhammad Kutty Ismail Paniparambil’, was separated for questioning for more than two hours on April 29 after he arrived in New York by a British Airways flight, reports say.
Mammootty had gone there to raise funds for his friend Stanley Kalathara, who�s contesting the election in NYC council.
But the superstar was held by the airport authorities after his arrival and was taken to a separate room where he was questioned on his purpose of visit to the US and other details. Apparently, Mammootty did not lose his calm and composure and answered all the questions. He informed them that he�s a popular actor from India and told the immigration officials to check his website, which includes detailed info about his profile and work.
After about two hours of cross checking, Mammootty was eventually cleared for entry into the country.
While speaking to a website, Mammootty said he was not offended by what happened. He said it was routine questioning and there�s nothing wrong in abiding by a country�s laws.
