Home DeliveryHome Delivery – Review

Sujoy Ghosh's movie Home Delivery is like a beautiful package empty inside. Too much emphasis has been given on a stylized presentation of the story rather than ensuring a good script in the first place.

Starring Vivek Oberoi , Ayesha Takia , Mahima Chaudhary and Boman Irani , the movie hardly passes off even as a light hearted entertainer. The intended humour simply falls flat and most of the characters in the movie end up looking as mere caricatures.

‘Home Delivery’ tells the story of Sunny Malhotra (Vivek Oberoi), a column writer for a News daily. Popularly known as Gyaan Guru, Sunny doles out advices on relationships – infatuation, love, breakups, infidelity, adultery etc. He also has on his hands a project to write a script for filmmaker Karan Johar.

Sunny has a charming way of molding things and situations in his favour. He plays pranks on Pizza delivery boys and gets the food for free by convincing them they are late in delivery. He is committed and yet not committed to his fiancée Jenny (Ayesha Takia).

On the sidelines there are other characters. There is Michael (Boman Irani), an imbecilic 51-year-old man who is a simpleton and takes every word literally. Michael is not able to keep any job long enough. But he vows to keep his latest job, that of a Pizza delivery boy, or man instead.

Then there are Sunny’s gluttonous neighbors (Saurabh Shukla and Tiku Talsania), the compulsive babblers who eat no less than they talk.

Sunny appears on a chat show in which he comes face to face with his teenage fantasy – a south Indian buxom actress Maya (Mahima Chaudhary). When Sunny tells Maya that he is writing a script for Karan Johar and has a slot open for an actress, Maya’s pallu drops. Sunny ogles. It is a sign! He knows.

But the invincible gyaan guru finds himself in a fix on the Diwali eve when he has a date with Maya and has to finish his deadline for script too. He also has to keep Jenny, his fiancée, out of the way. In this mayhem, a simple solution to all of Sunny’s problems is provided by Michael, the nondescript Pizza delivery man.

Although the basic story idea behind ‘Home Delivery’ is not uninteresting, what translates on the screen is far from humorous.

Vivek Oberoi overacts, hams and stretches the histrionic to such a limit that the credibility of his character snaps and fails to click.

Ayesha Takia efficiently brings out the shades of a sweet and strong girl in her character. Mahima Chaudhary is sensuous to the core. The dropping of her pallu and the revealing of her cleavage will sure pop many an eye among the viewers.

Boman Irani’s character is a bit caricaturish. Saurabh Shukla and Tiku Talsania do chip in some good comedy and make you smile.

Sujoy Ghosh has tried to make his movie interesting by giving it a new cinematic treatment and using cameo appearances by the likes of Abhishek Bachchan, Sunil Shetty, Karan Johar and Naseeruddin Shah.

But these embellishments fail to salvage the movie.
