A unique promotion for 'Halla Bol'

Perhaps never in the history of Bollywood has a film been promoted in the way Halla Bol is going to be.

Instead of holding press conferences in five-star hotels or visiting plush multiplexes, the stars of the film - Ajay Devgan , Vidya Balan and Pankaj Kapur - will come down on the streets and perform plays for aam aadmi to promote their film.

In keeping with the film's theme, the plays will have subjects that will deal with some social problem - be it eve-teasing, corruption, municipal problems or lack of proper healthcare for the poor.

All the skits for the plays have reportedly been written by Om Katare, a known theatre personality. The plays will be performed on the streets of main cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata.

The idea of promoting the film through street plays came from the 'Halla Bol' producer Abdul Sami Siddiqui during the making of the film. In the movie, Ajay Devgan and Pankaj Kapur play theatre actors who perform plays on the streets on several social issues. The producer thought of promoting the film in the same way. Moreover, the actors of the film agreed to do so.

Sami Siddiqui is sure that apart from promoting the film, the plays would help generate social awareness regarding several issues that concern a common man.

'Halla Bol' has been directed by Rajkumar Santoshi . The film will hit the theatres on January 11, 2008.
