Bringing the sexy back – the masculine way!

The Bollywood sex bombs are going dud. No doubts about it. So, Bollywood heroes are stepping in to fill the void and bring the sexy back.

Who could have thought a few years back that Bollywood would have to see this day. Those were the times when the likes of Nigar Khan were in their prime, and tops were slipping down on catwalks and cleavages flaunted to permissible limits in films. Today, movie buffs who tripped on that genre of titillation might look back at those times with a sense of longing and nostalgia.

And the reason for this is that sex bombs are vanishing fast from the face of Bollywood. Year 2007 saw their trailblazer Mallika Sherawat relegating herself to item numbers or cameo appearances. Celina Jaitley did carry forward the tradition a bit in films like Shakalaka Boom Boom and Red , but now she is also turning to “different” kinds of roles. Sherlyn Chopra did her best to pop many eyeballs with her hot act in ‘Red Swastika’. While Neha Dhupia has already been labeled a lost case in the books of those seeking titillation.

In the face of such a famine of feminine exposure in Bollywood, year 2007 saw men stepping in to do the needful.

Shah Rukh Khan doffed his shirt for the first time and flaunted his six-pack abs and his pelvic line over the low-waist jeans in home production Om Shanti Om . I don’t know about the reaction of men, but girls certainly drooled over to see those rippling muscles.

Ranbir Kapoor went a step further and dropped his towel to reveal his bare torso in a song in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Saawariya . Had the Censor Board been a bit lenient, it would have been the most daring exposure by a male actor in many years since Ranbir’s dad Rishi Kapoor did the same for a Raj Kapoor film. Like father like son, the adage does apply in real life.

And now, a whole lot of Bollywood brigade is bit by the six-pack-abs bug. Aamir Khan has been developing his body and will flaunt his brawns (not brains, for change) in the upcoming Hindi remake of Ghajini for which he will also go bald soon.

Zayed Khan has over-enthusiastically vowed to leave Salman Khan behind in possessing a chiseled physique. Even Ajay Devgan and Vivek Oberoi have begun toiling on treadmills to get in good shape.

If the Bollywood sirens have thrown in the towel, the men have taken the lead in bringing the sexy back on the silver screen. And they seem to be doing a heck of a job.
