Parvathy misses Miss World title by a whisker

It has been more than seven years since an Indian beauty ( Priyanka Chopra in 2000) won the Miss World title. Many hopes were attached to this year’s Pantaloons Femina Miss India-World, Paravathy. And she did not disappoint even though she missed the title by a whisker.

The 21-year-old southern beauty stood out among contestants from 109 countries and impressed the judges at the Sandton Convention Centre with her wit and intelligence. The Miss World crown, however, was clinched by Russia’s Ksenya Sukhinova. Parvathy was first runner-up, while the second runner-up was Gabriel Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago. The other two beauties in the final five were Miss Angola and Miss South Africa.


Despite carrying the expectations of a billion people, Parvathy handled the pressure well throughout the pageant. She also did not lose her composure by the recent terrorist attacks at a Mumbai hotel where her father manages a restaurant.

Meanwhile, congratulatory messages have begun pouring in at Parvathy’s home in Andheri, Mumbai. Parvathy was born in Kottayam in Kerala but her parents migrated to Mumbai when she was just a child. She did her graduation from Mumbai’s Mithibai College. In April this year, Parvathy became the first Malayali beauty to win the Miss India crown.
