A wisp of fresh air - The Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu Music Review |

The ApunKaChoice music review of Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu. As a nod to Cupid, Karan Johar and the first-time director Shakun Batra will release Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu on Valentine’s Day weekend. The movie is seriously a love story, marketed so, and like always we cling to the hope of hearing some good tracks given the film is a lighthearted romance. So Amit Trivedi is on board for the music department. He is the same wonder guy, who has given music to the movies like Dev D, Aisha, and also to the Hollywood venture Trishna. Lyrics are by the in-house lyricist Amitabh Bhhatacharya. The title track is already ruling the charts with it peppery, fun music. But do the rest of tracks meet our expectations?
Let your hair down and go talli with Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu title track. The perky tune of the song can lighten up anyone’s bad mood. No wonder, with Amit Trivedi’s pro youth music sensibility the song has hit it big with the target audience. The upbeat mood continues with Ekk Main Aur Ekk Tu - Remix. The buoyancy of the track is rightly matched with light-on-ears disc beats. And we can sense the flavor of the Valentine’s Day with jolly-go-lucky couples singing Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and quaking the dance floor.
With its fleeting moments and philosophical words, Gubbare is the song of life. Even after the song ends the melody of it continues to linger. Amit yet again delivers a song with frisky jazz music, albeit in Bollywoodish style. Further on, what makes it more delightful for the listeners is the singer’s voice. Nikhil D’Souza successfully blends his charm with his singing talent while Shilpa Rao subtly uses her saucy vocals to a soothing effect.
Amit Trivedi mashes up music fantastically as he comes up with Aunty Ji and kindly uses Ash King’s versatility in this song. Retro goes pop with festive Goan folksy flair. ‘Aunty Ji’ is unexpectedly refreshing and also wonderful to watch. The heavy use of saxophone in the latter half of the track lifts up the song.
After the song of life, it’s the song for lovers and the lovesick. If ‘Gubbare’ was melodious and bubbly, Aahatein roots for somberness. The mellow track and its melancholy easily paves its way to the listener’s heart. Karthik renders it in a subdued tone and is later joined by Shilpa Rao, who adds passion to the song with her singing. One might get the feel that love is all around. After love, what about some ecstacy! Aahatein remix has a dash of the trance, and the techno music works its spell on you for a short duration.
The swings in the movie are justified by its tracks. Kar Chalna Shuru Tu is also a situational track, and like Gubbare and Aahatein, the song is not without its jazz moments. Also Vishal Dadlani’s evocative voice teamed with Shilpa Rao’s terrific singing makes it a nice track.
With exceptions like Aunty Ji, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu and Gubbare, the response to the album will vary. As we said earlier, the album is a hit for its target audience, the youngsters. The movie Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu will cater and connect to the urbane spectators, the multiplex-goers, and in that sense the music of the film is a winner. Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu soundtrack is like a wisp of fresh air which will make you feel good whenever it comes to you. Savour it!
