‘Aankhen’ sequel : Amitabh in, Akshay out!

In the season of sequels in Bollywood, here comes the news of the second installment of the 2002 movie Aankhen that starred Amitabh Bachchan , Akshay Kumar , Paresh Rawal , Arjun Rampal and Sushmita Sen in the lead roles.

‘Aankhen’, directed by Vipul Shah, was based on a Gujarati play “Andhalo Pato” (Blindman’s Bluff). The film told the story of a resentful bank employee (Amitabh Bachchan) who plans to rob the bank after being fired unjustly from his job. But instead of getting his own hands dirty, he gets three blind men (Akshay, Paresh and Arjun) meticulously trained to pull off the heist. The movie had two different endings – one for Indian audiences and another for viewers overseas.

During the making of the film and in the time of its release, Gaurang Doshi apparently had fallout with its director Vipul Shah and actors Akshay Kumar and Arjun Rampal.

So now as Doshi is gearing up to make Aankhen 2 , he has handed over the director’s reins to actor-director Sachin. Also, Akshay, Arjun and Sushmita are not likely to act in the sequel.

However, the enterprising producer has made it clear that Amitabh Bachchan will indeed play the lead role in ‘Aankhen 2’. Doshi has also finalized two other top players in the movie, but he hasn’t revealed their names yet.

It is speculated that Paresh Rawal is among the two finalized. Talks are also abuzz that John Abraham might also be roped in for the film as he is already working in Doshi’s other production called Happy Birthday .

The story of ‘Aankhen 2’ will once again revolve around blind characters.

Sachin is said to be presently working on the movie’s script. The shooting is likely to begin in November this year.
