First Look - Freida Pinto teams up with Antonio Banderas for ‘Black Gold’
Freida plays an Arab lady in the movie ‘Black Gold’!

She was written off after the debacle of her last two films Miral and You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger. But Indian actress Freida Pinto is back with a bang with another big film Black Gold for which she is teaming up for the first time with the Spanish actor Antonio Banderas.

Black Gold is directed by Jean-Jacques Annaud of Seven Years in Tibet fame and is written by Menno Meyjes. The movie boasts of a sterling star cast which also includes Mark Strong (Body Of Lies) and Tara Rahim (A Prophet) along with Freida and Banderas.

Freida will once again play an Arab girl in the film after Julian Schanabel’s Miral in which she played a Palestinian woman. ‘Black Gold’ is based on Hans Ruesch’s book The Great Thirst, and it’s shocking to know that the producer Tarak Ben Ammar was nurturing the dream of making this film for the last 30 years.

What’s the story of the film? Set in the 1930s’ Arab states at the dawn of the oil boom, the story centers on a young Arab prince torn between allegiance to his conservative father and modern, liberal father-in-law. As per reports, Freida essays the role of Banderas’ daughter in the film. Well, this fact is certainly hard to digest.
